Young Arts at Demelza House

Since 1992 the Ashford Young Arts group has been led by Jane Brentnall who until recently was a teacher at Ashford School. Jane writes:

We currently have 37 children from 25 families. New members are always welcome. Our Young Arts group provides exciting opportunities for children and young people to expand their horizons through their involvement in creative and arts related activities. These activities take place during school holidays. The annual membership fee of £7.00 includes all family members between 8 and 18 and covers insurance and administrative costs; any remaining funds are used to subsidise the cost of activities. The Arts Society, Ashford also supports the group financially.

Recent activities included an Easter egg decorating day and a workshop with Sue Gray (an Arts Society member) who gave the children a taste of calligraphy and guided them in the creation of illuminated letters then decorating them with gold leaf.

In the summer holidays visits are sometimes arranged to places of interest including the Geffrye Museum and a tour of the 2012 Olympic site.
