Ashford Young Arts group was founded 36 years ago and is affiliated to the Ashford branch of The Arts Society. Its aim is the advancement of arts education and the appreciation and preservation of our artistic heritage for young people.

Young Arts provides exciting opportunities for children and young people to expand their horizons through their involvement in creative and arts related activities. These activities take place during school holidays. Membership is open to young people aged 8 to 18.

Since 1992 the Ashford Young Arts group has been run by Mrs Jane Brentnall, a former teacher. The membership fee of £7.00 per annum includes all family members between 8 and 18. The fee covers insurance and administration costs and any remaining funds are used to subsidise the cost of activities. The activities range from art and craft days to cultural trips and there are three or four activity days each year. Members are encouraged to bring a friend to activity days and on occasion parents also take part in trips. Each activity day is optional and members only pay for activities they take part in.

The Ashford Young Arts group is always happy to welcome new members and there is currently no waiting list for membership. Jane Brentnall can be contacted by e-mail at or at the address given on the holiday programme.

In addition to running our Young Arts group, The Arts Society Ashford also makes an annual donation aimed at encouraging an appreciation of the arts among children and young people. In recent years our donations have sponsored a talented young singer and song writer, paid for an interactive concert at a local primary school and paid for art materials for the Caldecott School. This year we have given £300 to St Eanswythe’s primary school, Folkestone, to buy much needed art materials at a time when funds are severely limited and many of the pupils’ families are on low incomes.
