Silver and Social Custom with Ian Pickford

In order to fully appreciate and understand any piece of silver, it is essential to look at the context of the social custom and ways of life of the period in which it was made. The morning sessions will examine a wide range of contemporary paintings and objects to bring to life the evolution of Social Custom and its influence on silver from 1066 through to the early 19th century. For the afternoon session those attending are encouraged to bring pieces of silver or plate, which will be identified and discussed.
